Green's Creek North of Montreal Road 3.50

Fantastic day, blue sky in the morning and 15 cm of fresh snow. Does it get any better?? Of course the extra 45 minutes of chasing after Racket only ensured that we got in the full 3.5 hours! Judy, the beach, booze and bathing just can't compete!

Western Parkway from Champlain Briddge  2.25
It was a cold and windy night....especially along the river!11-01-13-5.jpg

2 1/4 hours, starting at the parking lot just before the Champlain Bridge, along the Western Parkway to11 01 13 2 Woodroffe following the pathways, up Woodroffe to Richmond (with a tea/MyoPlex stop courtesy of OC Transpo), back along Richmond Road (ooooo - those shops!), north along Island Park back to the cars. Brrrrr.

Good company, good trekking, good night!
11-01-14   Liz Hog's Back 1.50

A short jaunt at lunchtime (had to get out!) to spectacular Hog's Back Falls and the trail along the river.  Lots of pix, a bit of climbing to get them.

My house around Petrie Is and back 2.00 Wow, that was tough! The snow and wind made this heavy going. But it is so interesting walking out on the river, such a great perspective, gives a whole new meaning to walking on water.

Canal circuit 2.50

Beautiful snowy evening for an urban walk. South along the east side of the canal to the Hartwell Locks, crossing over to the arboretum, up to Dow's Lake pavillion, back along the west side of the canal.  A  bit of a slog through the snow, but a great workout.

Round Petrie Island 1.45

What a beautiful day. The sun was out and the dogs loved it. Headed west to the end of the island and then back through the thin strip of land with tree. Canada's favorite rodent is really damaging even the big trees. Took some pics.

Ontario-Quebec loop  2.50

Chilly night.  Walked along the canal, then Sussex to the Alexandra Bridge, along the back of the Museum of Civilization (and up and down the stairs a few times!), along the river on the Gatineau side to the Portage Bridge crossing back into Ottawa, along Wellington, then Elgin, across Pretoria Bridge, and home along Echo.  Stopped for pix with some of the landmarks along the way.

Kanata forest 2.25

-39C with the wind chill does not keep the intrepid trekkers home!  We braved the elements and had a wonderful walk thru the Kanata forest near Arlene's house.  It was great fun, no one got frostbite, and we thoroughly enjoyed being out on such a nice sunny day.

Urban walk 2.50

A very mild evening for a January walk.  Across the canal, into the Glebe, up Bronson, along Somerset, up Booth, west to Preston, back to Somerset, along Bank (where Josette left us) to Echo Drive, and home.  Slippy slidey snow along the latter part of the walk made it a good workout.

Wolf Trail 3.50

It was a fantastic day to do Wolf Trail in the Gats.  The sun and blue sky came out about half way into our trek - beautiful.  Excellent picnic at the second peak and a quick descent, which included some very fun sliding (girls only!)

abbreviated canal circuit 2.50

A nice not-too-cold canal circuit.  Anda left us at Pretoria bridge for a post-walk skating date, but we continued up to the NAC and a shared beavertail.

Gatineaus, Trails 71 and 70 to Healey

5.50

Tried a new route in the Gatineaus today - Trails 71 and 70, departing from P15 with a fun lunch stop at Healey lodge (our fellow diners were VERY impressed!).  Lots of steep hills along 71 make Wolf seem easy.

Gatineaus, Trails 71 and 72 to Brown Lake Cabin  6.00

A snowy day made for tough conditions underfoot as we followed trails 71 and 72 to Brown Lake Cabin, where we planned to have our trek-feast indoors.  It was locked tight.  We landed off eating in the firewood shed!   How rustic.  Took us a long time to get back to the parking lot thanks to freshly falling snow and slog conditions.

Parliment Hill steps             2.0  2 hours of stair climbing resulted in 10 complete up-down loops of the 2 sets of stairs. I figure around 3000 steps with the hike in between. Great work out

Wolf Trai             2:10  OMG the black flies were so thick that I'm sure we lost weight from them carrying pieces of us away. Certainly cut down on conversation because you  couldn't open your mouth! Other than that, the trail was still muddy and wet from all the rain but the spring leaves in a multitude of greens and all the trilliums made it worth it, even with the black flies.

Dows Lake Loop             2:15 How weird is that. Arlene was going to be late so we are hanging around in Judy's yard admiring her garden. At 7:15 Liz finally cals to ask Arlene how far away she is and she says she is already 40 minutes ahead of us walking. She parked, walked right past us and started bombing down the canal to "catch" us. More like us catching her. Beautiful night. Maya and Racket loved it as well.

Wow, you guys are right out there burning up the trails. Sorry that my dog Racket has made you walk those extra steps...but that's probably all good.
